Some folks have opened the port up length wise to allow 3 inchers to feedextract without a problem. Ill check my 870 at home this weekend (out of town on business today) and measure the length of the boltport. The key is making sure the barrels have a chamber for 3 shells. How were people to know if they were buying magnums or not Anyway, with that all being said, is this a magnum that can handle 3 loads Also any guesses on how old this gun is The things never been fired Click to expand. If you go to the Remington website and drop them an e-mail with the serial number they can tell you what year your shotgun was produced. If the barrels are marked 2 34 and 3, then by all means, shoot 3 if needed. Later models were sold with a plastic trigger group and later the J lock safety.

Remingtons early low-end 870 were calles Sportsmans, later they became Express models.įor the first few years the Express models had a steel trigger assembly. Remingtons manufactured after 1921 have a code located on the left side of the barrel near the frame that identifies the year and month of manufacture. They gave me the link this past summer and I sent in the serial of a Remington shotgun that came into my posession.

Is there anything on the web I can use to look up serial numbers that will identify the gun. Usually there is a serial number followed by an M, the M is Magnum designated. There shouldnt be any reason to buy additional barrels if you want to shoot 3 shells. Is there anything on the web I can use to look up serial numbers that will identify the gun Any help appreciated. I just want to know if this gun can handle 3 loads if I get different barrels for it or if the gun itself is actually chambered at 2 34. Is the gun actually chambered at 2 34 or is it just the barrels The new 870 Express looks to be chambered at 3 according to Remingtons website. Im guessing its not a magnum since it doesnt say magnum anywhere. It came with 2 barrels and both says something to the effect of Can use 3 and 2 34 loads in magnum models. On the gun, it simply says Remington 870 Express and on the box it says its the Remington 870 Express Combo. Neither say magnum on them, yet both show the serial number ending in M.

Can anyone help me with a date of manufacture and particular model 870. All of the parts are marked with Remington name or logo. It does not have smooth polished steel on the receiver. (This has nothing to do with the barrel code & the barrel code has nothing to do with the serial numbers)ġ950 TO APPROX 1968: NO SERIAL NUMBER PREFIXġ968 TO PRESENT: LETTERS USED (IN SEQUENCE) The serial number on the receiver is CC92294C. REMINGTON SHOTGUN SERIAL NUMBER STRUCTURE I do not care about the number as it indicates the guns assembly station in the plant, but the two letters will date the barrel.

What is the two letter stamp on the barrel? This would be the two letters on the left side of the barrel that are closest to the receiver.there will be a "number" between these two letters and the receiver for reference. The "V" on the end of the serial number means that your gun is a 12 gauge, 2 3/4" chamber. Example I have a 16 gauge 1100 I bought new in 1979 that has a "M" prefix serial number and barrel code of "PV" or June 1979! Click to expand. The receiver was most likely made in either 1974, 1975, 1976 or 1977 as indicated by the Prefix "T" in the serial number, but keep in mind this is not completely accurate n determining the exact age of the firearm.
